Face Value? Do you take it?

Peace,

We have a saying in the nation that goes, "Don't take things on face value". I once heard a God say that the only thing we truly know is what we experience. Do you agree? Now, this is interesting since we can't possibly all experiment on everything to get results. At some point it seems that we do accept things on face value. Have you been to the sun? How do you know how far it is? How do we know how fast the Earth travels? Mathematics of course! When children have a question, they have an interesting way of asking, asking and asking some more until you just want to say "Because it just is!". Is that the correct response to give? I've been interested in hearing others build on face value. Do you or don't you take things on face value? And if so, at what point. If now, How come and what do you use to show and prove what you "know"? Feel free to give examples and experiences.

Peace,
Devotion

I agree that some things of course will and have been taken on face value by myself and probably many others. I do have a method or an equation of what, how and when I will take something on face value or believe it without actually going through the experimentation process myself . I will use secondary research. Secondary research is using of the finding of others and accepting that knowledge as a fact. A simple example of this can be reading a biology book. I think that secondary research is useful in varying degrees. In my method of knowing what to accept you have to have a basic understanding of the subject at hand and how does it apply to you. So you will be able to discern what is feasible and what is an likely result based on the knowledge that you do have. Let's take a virus for a example. I don't have an electron microscope so I have never seen one. However I have seen microscopic organisms through a light microscope. And I do know that if someone sneezes in my face that I can get sick. So I can believe that their is an infectious agent that is 1/100th the size of bacteria. I apply things to mathematics and if it makes sense then I will believe it and if it doesn't then I don't. Nevertheless I will always take on more information and knowledge in order to see if my theory can be disproven. That's the thing in science things are never proven only this proven. And something is only a fact in till is can be disproven.

Hotep!
Everyone takes things on face value period. Research is Re- searching what someone else has put the blood, sweat, and tears into. When you read a book with information, and of course you will find other books with simular information because you cross referenced, you store it in you mind as fact and boom thats taking it on face value. We aint conduct any experiments, we are taking someone elses word/ conclusions. Like you said we havent traveled outter space and surly did not literaly measure it. As far as getting the "infomation" by doing mathematics... who gave you that formula, and can a different formula be used? I conclude that everything is talen on face value, unless you truly experience it. Whether the information is right or wrong is still talking it on face value. Another example is doing drugs, we are Told drugs are bad for our bodies, and say for instance you have never tried it and you tell others its bad for them as well. This is taking information on face value, you yourself never felt the effects of it.
Peace to you Goddesses

Peace,
Taking things on face value everyone does it, however does that mean we should just take things blindly. What is the best way to get clear understanding of something other than looking at it mathematically? Can we experiment and experience every bit of information we are presented with, certainly not. Is it even wise to want to experience everything first hand so you can know beyond a shadow of a doubt? Absoultely not. Nevertheless knowing and understanding mathematics gives us the keys to breakdown the science of everything in life. Do I have to use drugs to know that it is bad for me? Can’t I simply do the knowledge to countless of my brothers and sisters experiences in order to see and understand the effects. You can accept information blindly, or you can use your mathematical sense to see if it adds up.

I like how Goddess Umi put it, Things are taken on face value whether its' TRUE or FALSE information. Saying that drugs are bad for you and not taken it yourself is a TRUE face value Fact. That can also link to cause and effect.
I don't think she is saying that you MUST experience everything but the things that you DO experience are things that are NOT taken on face value.
As far as math goes, everything is not 1+1+2, but you got to multiply, divide, subtract as well.
My example is: knowing the distance of pluto form the sun... How do you know its fact... two ways you either sit there thinking about how it can be fact? and/or you use the SAME formula given to you to work out to give you the SAME answer 'they' came up with? Either way its face value. We stored this information as fact, what if our ancestors had a different method with a different answer... is theirs wrong?
Taking something blindly is not questioning or chanllenging it... how can you challenge the distance of Pluto from the Sun? So can you say its fact even with doing the knowledge and literal math involved? With that I say peace on this Understanding Cipher Day.

I see taking something on face value as taking something without using common sense or logic. Our grandfathers can tell us when soup and a sandwich only cost a dime, should we say that we're taking it on face value? Or should we take it as being history that he has experienced that we could not experience and passed it along to us? Should we take what the devil calls mythology as myth? or HISTORY put in code in order to preserve the best part? Yes Jesus can walk on water ("Yeah I said it!!!"). But what or WHO fits the characteristics of water? (Please don't say that Jesus walked all over women since water is symbolic to the woman...lol)

Common sense and logic are interchangeable and uses math as it's tool.

Some may think I'm out of my mind but who says that the original man cannot come together to build a mother plane? Where do we think the caucasian got the AIR-plane from? Just because WE don't know how doesn't mean someone else doesn't. Isn't there a science called Aerodynamics? Physics? Architecture? Metalurgy? Alchemy? etc. that can be used to build such a thing? Or is it just me thinking that the original man (and woman) has a birth record because he or her cannot think of such high science thus I'm taking it on face value?

Peace.

There were some really good viewpoints and comments presented here.

"I once heard a God say that the only thing we truly know is what we experience."

Perhaps what the God should've said is that "the only thing we truly" UNDERSTAND "is what we experience."

To me it makes more sense in that light.

Peace.
